Bondage Removed

Brandyn was granted 120 days of Short-Term Transitional Leave by the Oregon Department of Corrections. His release counselor helped him develop an early release plan directly to Roseburg Rescue Mission. No other place was authorized to transition from prison to freedom. The Mission was approved because we do not charge for services, have a healthy environment, and have helped so many others.

An intake interview was conducted and a plan for success was developed. He received a clothing voucher to our Mission Store, bus passes, direction to the Employment Department, and help getting a Driver’s License. In two weeks, he had a job. Then, he kept looking for a better one. He received three job offers in a day, accepting the one full-time position. And, he has already been promoted. He owns a car and is on our waiting list to rent a Transitional Housing Program room.

“I enjoy chapel,” Brandyn said, “I believe in God. Hearing God’s Word consistently has helped me mentally over depression and anxiety, and with what I should and do believe. It has got me back on track with praying and formed that daily habit. It has helped me feel closer to God and that He is helping me. There are those days when I think no one is listening. Then, I think about all the good things that have happened in the last few months, and I attribute that to God.”

Physical and spiritual freedom has given Brandyn a new life. Bondage from incarceration, feelings of injustice, and separation from the Lord have been removed. Now, he can move forward in life as a new person with real hope. Once in our Transitional Housing, he will build a rental history to launch into independence. And, he will be walking with the Lord.
